Gecko at Wired Oct 09 (1st song of 9)

myspace.com/gecko

Headlining was Wotton-Under-Edge threesome Gecko, parading their all-important pinstripe trousers, and promoting their latest EP, Stop, Look, Lizard. Singer and songwriter, Will, describe their music as having a carnival vibe to it; “It’s singer / songwriter dance music, there’s a lot of Latin American rhythms, a bit of reggae and ska, and African guitar”. Strangest Feeling, from the 2008 album, Song’s in the Key of Lizard, displayed a rougher side to Will’s voice, whereas so-called couples song, I’ve got Time, slowed things down with a relaxed ambiance. What You Gonna’ Do? is another charming tune you can’t help but groove to. They ended on a tropical note with Guanabana Juice, the sort of song resulting to drunken-like dancing and big smiles. They strive to play their best, giving more than one hundred percent, and enjoy every minute of it. Gecko has an upbeat onstage presence, presenting songs with a likable charisma and catching you like flies with their witty lyrics, definitely worth a watch. Stop, Look, Lizard is available on iTunes… if you’re too futuristic for CDs.
